The Court of Audit is a court, like the Administrative Court and the criminal courts. It audits and adjudicates the accounts and management of ministries, local authorities, public enterprises and any body that receives public funds directly or indirectly, including associations and political parties. The Court is based in Tunis and in the governorates of Sousse, Sfax, Jendouba and Gafsa. It is organised into central and regional chambers whose responsibilities cover public and local finances and all development sectors, including health, education, social security, transport and the environment. It has a Public Prosecutor’s Office that ensures the proper application of the law and the right of those subject to the Court’s jurisdiction to a fair trial. The Court’s staff consists of magistrates and registrars. The quality of its judicial and audit work is safeguarded through compliance with professional standards, collegial decision-making and adversarial proceedings. The Court publishes reports and issues judgments. To learn more, please watch this video prepared by BarrElAmen to mark the fiftieth anniversary.
